Peterkin designed the original plans for the building following the 1916 Zoning Resolution in New York City. Then, in 1952, architects Harrison & Abramovitz became involved in the project and designed the property in the International and Moderne styles.

Developed as a speculative project by Peter B. Ruddin for the prominent Goelet family, the building, also known as the Socony-Mobil Building, is a NYC landmark.
